At CPMC Mission Bernal, you have the option to choose a certified nurse-midwife. Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation’s certified nurse-midwives partner with you throughout your pregnancy and delivery. Our team of certified nurse-midwives deliver babies and can also provide comprehensive prenatal and postpartum care. In addition to obstetrical services, nurse-midwives are also trained to provide routine gynecology services including cervical cancer screening, breast exams and birth control counseling.
SPMF nurse-midwives are board-certified experts in low-risk pregnancy and childbirth, as well as in postpartum care and lactation support. They prioritize building relationships with you and your partner based on trust, care and respect. To maintain their certification, midwives adhere to the rigorous practice standards set by the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
Nurse-midwives work collaboratively with doctors and other healthcare professionals. Although they practice independently in many areas, consulting with doctors is an important aspect of a nurse-midwife's job. If you choose midwifery care during pregnancy, you will benefit from this close relationship between your nurse-midwife and your doctor. Should a problem develop, the nurse-midwife can seamlessly engage the on-call physician at any point.
If you have complications during your pregnancy, you may need to receive care from a doctor. Learn more about our high-risk pregnancy services.
Nurse-midwives can also provide comprehensive care throughout the stages of your life including routine gynecological exams and birth control, preconception counseling and peri-menopausal support.
