At Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital, we honor the unique character of every birth by creating an environment that meets the physical, emotional and technological needs of each mother, child and family. Once you’ve selected an OB/Gyn, nurse midwife and any additional members of your labor and delivery team, it’s time to prepare for the birth of your child.
Pre-Register for Delivery
If you plan to deliver your baby at Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital, we ask that you pre-register during your second trimester. This way, we can anticipate your arrival and quickly admit you when you are in active labor. You can pre-register online, by mail or in-person. Talk to your doctor for more information about pre-registration.
Plan Your Route
To familiarize yourself with the best route from your home to Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital, practice the drive with the person who will probably bring you to the hospital when labor begins. If you are pre-admitted, all you need to do is sign a treatment consent form. If you are not pre-admitted, admitting forms will also need to be completed. In either case, be sure to bring your insurance card with you to ensure accurate processing of your financial paperwork.
When You're in Labor
When you begin to experience symptoms of labor, you should make your way to the hospital. A nurse will examine you and consult with your physician or midwife to determine whether it’s time for you to be admitted. Do not be disappointed if you are not admitted on your first visit. It is very common for women to experience symptoms of labor and not yet be ready for admission.
Upon admission, you will be taken into one of our private labor and delivery rooms, where you will stay during labor, the birth of your baby and during the recovery period immediately after birth. After you have recovered from the delivery of your baby, you will be moved to a private recovery room where you and your baby will stay until you are ready to go home.
