Volunteering Opportunities
Sutter Davis Hospital no longer accepts student volunteers, any student be it high school, community college, university, or graduate student.
Volunteering at Sutter Davis Hospital is fun, it’s rewarding, and it’s a way to make a difference in someone’s life every single day. Here are some of the areas of service for our volunteers (minimum of two four-hour shifts per month):
- Emergency department
- Gift shop
- Information desk
- Patient services
- Surgery liaison
We look forward to receiving your application and interviewing you for membership in Sutter Davis Hospital's Volunteer Services.
Volunteer Doulas
When requested by the expectant mother, Sutter Davis Hospital offers a special program to provide continuous physical, emotional and informational support to mothers during the childbirth process.
The Sutter Davis Doula Program is administered by Birthing Center registered nurses with many years of experience supporting women in labor. We greatly appreciate having prospective volunteer doulas join our labor support team. Doula orientations are held twice a year, in the spring and fall. Acceptance to the program is through an application and interview process.
The Sutter Davis Hospital Doula Program is a highly sought-after opportunity with rigorous requirements. Those who apply and are accepted to the program agree to a minimum two-year commitment and will be expected to fulfill a minimum of 12 hours of call each month.
Applications for the volunteer doula program are currently open.
Volunteer Doula ApplicationBenefits of Volunteering
"There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up." — John Andrew Holmes
Volunteering is a wonderful gift that can be given to patients and the community. Volunteers meet people, make new friends, use their skills, and acquire new ones. They feel a sense of accomplishment and perhaps the most important benefit is satisfaction of knowing they are contributing to their community and making a difference.
Become a Volunteer
Prospective volunteers must complete an application form, pass a background check and obtain a health clearance. Applicants interview individually with the membership coordinator. Volunteers are placed into specific work areas of their choosing and are given regularly scheduled shifts, based upon their availability each month. Volunteers are expected to work their assigned shifts and can be dismissed for excessive absenteeism.
Our service-based programs help meet the needs of patients, families and staff. Our services are not a job-training program or an internship, nor do we provide medical shadowing. We do not accept court-ordered placements.
UC Davis Student Volunteers
The Sutter Davis Student Volunteer program is administered and managed by the UC Davis Internship and Career Center and only UC Davis students are eligible. Other students and adults in transition between educational and employment opportunities must seek volunteer options elsewhere.
