Thanks to the support of our dedicated donors, significant advancements in Sutter Health’s cancer services capabilities were made last year, improving the lives of patients and their families.

Here are some of the impactful investments that were made possible in 2022:

Cone Beam CT Scan

Memorial Medical Center has acquired a state-of-the-art Cone Beam CT Scan, enhancing diagnostic capabilities for cancer patients. This advanced imaging technology provides detailed and three-dimensional images, enabling oncologists to precisely target tumors, plan radiation treatments, and monitor treatment progress. The Cone Beam CT Scan has greatly improved the accuracy and effectiveness of cancer diagnosis and treatment, leading to better patient outcomes.

Infusion Center Upgrades & Repairs

At Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, donors have funded various upgrades and repairs to the infusion center. These enhancements, such as the addition of a vestibule with a temperature-controlled atmosphere, create a more comfortable and inviting environment for patients undergoing chemotherapy. Material improvements like floor repairs ensure a safe and clean space, enhancing the overall patient experience during their cancer treatment journey.

Early Cancer Detection

Sutter Davis Hospital has acquired a Blue Light Video System, a cutting-edge technology for early cancer detection. This system utilizes blue light and special filters to highlight abnormal tissue, aiding physicians in detecting and diagnosing cancer at its earliest stages. By detecting cancer early, patients have a higher chance of successful treatment and improved long-term outcomes.

Cancer Programs

At Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, ongoing cancer programs are made possible through donor support. These programs encompass education, resources, nurse navigation, and counseling services for cancer patients in the greater Sacramento area. By providing comprehensive support and guidance throughout the cancer journey, patients and their families receive the necessary tools to make informed decisions, cope with challenges, and achieve the best possible quality of life.

Oncology Physician Collaboration

The generous support of donors has also led to the creation of an Oncology Team Room at Sutter Medical Foundation. This dedicated space allows oncologists and other healthcare professionals to collaborate, discuss patient cases, and share insights and opinions. The Oncology Team Room fosters a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, ensuring that patients benefit from the collective expertise of the entire care team. This collaborative environment ultimately leads to improved treatment plans and better outcomes for patients.

These enhancements will go on to help patients like Dinu, who was diagnosed with lymphoma and underwent years of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, a stem cell transplant and targeted anti-cancer therapy. Despite the many difficult therapies he endured, the blood cancer continued to return. Fortunately, the availability of an innovative treatment called CAR T-cell therapy—a new approach to treat patients with leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma—is offering hope for patients like Dinu.
