Longtime Bay Area resident Carol Baer is a breast cancer survivor and a charitable investor in the Breast Health Center and breast cancer research at CPMC.
“I love San Francisco for its rich variety of culture, science and art. I also value receiving my medical care in a center of knowledge whose professionals have a strong drive for innovation and a large network of valuable referrals.
CPMC flourishes in this environment. I have never felt anywhere like I do at CPMC. From the physicians to the nurses and everyone else who cares for me — each looks me in the eye, asks me how I am, and waits to hear my answer. They focus on me as a whole person. My anxiety melts and I feel relaxed and reassured. And I am currently cancer free. How could you ask for anything more than that?"
Philanthropy makes possible much of the care breast cancer patients receive at CPMC. This includes screening on the most advanced 3D mammography equipment, as well as nurses providing patient navigation and counseling during treatment, recovery and survivorship.
I give to CPMC in honor of the beautiful care I’ve been given. I want to ensure that other women also have the opportunity to receive this kind of care. —Carol Baer
