Women have long played an outsized role in the healthcare of not just their own families, but of San Francisco itself. This was the central theme throughout the Women’s and Children’s Health Leadership Council’s inaugural luncheon held January 16, 2019 at the Van Ness Campus. The event opened with a reception in the Caren and David Edwards Family Waiting Area on Level 5, where nearby Labor & Delivery and Deikel Family NICU patient rooms were open for viewing. The luncheon was themed “Your Wellness, Your Future” and council chair Lisa Lenzo emceed the program, which featured:
- A short film was presented on the history of women at CPMC with Katie Cardinal and Connie Mardikian.
- Warren Browner, MD, talked about the special features of the Van Ness Campus.
- Shoshana Ungerleider, MD, gave an empowering talk about taking control of your own healthcare.
- A final short film described the patient experience at CPMC featuring Wendy Armstrong and her daughter London, who spent 102 days in the NICU; NICU director Terri Slagle, MD; pediatrics chair Dr. Lorry Frankel, MD; and patient Liz Johannesen and her gynecologic oncologist John Chan, MD.
The event hosted more than 200 guests, among them a number of longtime philanthropic partners as well as physicians and staff instrumental to maintaining the high quality of services CPMC provides for the women and children of San Francisco.
