Mills-Peninsula is one of the region’s leading providers of cardiac catheterization procedures, which offer a less invasive, safer alternative to traditional surgery for diagnosing and treating cardiovascular conditions. Catheter-based procedures use a thin tube inserted into a large blood vessel for more accurate identification of narrowed coronary arteries and to open blocked passageways for improved blood flow. In 2019 alone, MPMC’s expert interventional cardiologists performed 389 catheterizations for diagnosis and 518 for treatment. MPMC’s current Catheterization Laboratory uses technology that is a decade old and is in need of replacement. Upgrading to the latest in cardiac catheterization technology will expand the range of procedures available, improve patient outcomes, increase the volume of procedures MPMC is able to perform and open up new possibilities for research into the applications of catheterization, which will enhance the entire field of cardiovascular care.
