Fertility Problems: Should I Be Tested?

Medically Reviewed by

Question

I've been trying to conceive for three months now and no luck. Is something wrong with me?

Answer

No, you don't need to be worried yet. Seventy percent of all couples trying to have a baby don't conceive within the first three months. The standard would normally be to have a medical evaluation after 12 months without conceiving. A consultation with an OB/GYN generalist for an evalutation would be your next step, after 12 months.

Based on your consultation, and assuming you are a low-risk patient, then a plan of care would be developed that includes testing, possible medications, etc.

Obviously, if there are individual risk factors which make you specifically concerned, then you're welcome to see your OB/GYN sooner than 12 months.
