About Me

Philosophy of Care

In my clinical practice, I focus on treating athletic injuries to the shoulder and knee, as well as shoulder arthritis. I use arthroscopic techniques to treat meniscal tears, ligament injuries to the knee, cartilage injuries, shoulder dislocations or instability, labral tears, and rotator cuff tears. I perform shoulder replacements for arthritis and avascular necrosis of the shoulder. I have also researched and am skilled at performing reverse total shoulder replacements.

Because I have extended my practice to include treatment of the aging population, I have a greater understanding of complex shoulder anatomy and mechanics. After graduating from Yale Medical School and completing my orthopedic surgery residency at University of California Irvine, I completed my Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship at Stanford University Hospital Clinics. During my fellowship I was a team physician responsible for treating sports injuries at Stanford and Santa Clara universities, as well as at Foothill and DeAnza colleges. I was an assistant team physician for the 49ers.

In addition to my practice at PAMF, I have also been an orthopedic sports physician at a wide variety of professional level sporting events: SAP Open Tennis, U.S. figure skating championships, and Olympic trials in gymnastics. Beyond the treatment of injury, I am also sensitive to the needs and pressures that professional athletes face when injured. I work with trainers, coaches, and physical therapists in order to maximize my patients' outcomes.

Regardless of a patient's age or athletic level, I discuss each diagnosis in depth and thoroughly review treatment options. I offer patients nonsurgical treatment options and maximize their rehabilitation prior to recommending surgery. If surgery becomes necessary, I use the most advanced technology and techniques in arthroscopy to accurately diagnose and treat these injuries.

I enjoy getting to know my patients, and respect the unique medical challenges each individual faces. I also listen carefully to my patients, and thoroughly explain their problems and treatment options. My patients tell me that my open demeanor reduces their fears when they face surgery, and they consistently give me high patient satisfaction scores. I have been entrusted by my colleagues in the Mountain View Orthopedic Surgery Department to serve as their chairman. I have also served as the Orthopedic Department Chairman at El Camino Hospital. In my role as chairman at PAMF, it has been reassuring to see that my values and philosophy of care are shared by my colleagues.

I feel privileged to have returned to my native Bay Area where I can now practice orthopedic surgery and provide excellent care.
