Nicola J. Shea, P.A.

Nicola's care centers on patient-focused, empathetic, and evidence-based treatment. She strives to partner with patients to understand their conditions, set realistic goals, and safely return to the activities that matter most to them. Her passion for orthopedics and sports medicine is deeply personal—after sustaining a multiligament knee injury as a former NCAA Division I gymnast at UC Berkeley and undergoing multiple surgeries, she developed a strong appreciation for high-quality musculoskeletal care and rehabilitation. This experience allows her to relate to patients both clinically and personally as they navigate injury and recovery.

Nicola volunteers with the UCSF Race Medical Team, providing marathon medical coverage, and has previously volunteered with UCSF PlaySafe Cardiac Physicals, assisting with the cardiac pre-participation physicals event for local high school athletes. She values contributing to community health initiatives that promote safe physical activity and preventative care.

Outside of medicine, Nicola enjoys spending time outdoors, camping, and adventuring with her husband, two daughters, and their dog. She values an active lifestyle and family-centered activities, which closely align with her passion for helping patients stay active and healthy.
