Each year, 12.7 million people are diagnosed with cancer and 7.6 million people die from the disease. However, research shows that up to 40 percent of those deaths can be prevented and one-third of cases cured through early diagnosis and treatment. Your philanthropic efforts are aiding these collaborative efforts every day, whether by funding support groups and educational programs or advanced tools and more comfortable infusion chairs.
Sutter Medical Foundation
Artificial intelligence pilot study: Donors helped fund the second deployment of a pilot study to determine whether a monitoring system could flag unusual results in patients with lung cancer. The tool runs in the background and only requires active attention from radiologists when it detects a discrepancy.
Stereotactic biopsy upgrade: This 3D stereotactic guided breast biopsy system allows teams to use tomosynthesis (3D mammography) to precisely locate abnormalities, especially those that were best (or only) seen on 3D mammography. Biopsies done this way use less radiation and are completed more quickly and accurately than with previous methods.
Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento
Cancer programs and research: Nationally recognized cancer specialists and accredited facilities, highly trained oncology nurses and skilled technicians in the Sutter Health network work together to give patients access to leading-edge treatments, progressive clinical trials and a 24/7 multidisciplinary support team.
Tracy Community Hospital
Infusion Center upgrades: Donor support funded additional recliners and an enhanced patient experience for patients receiving infusions.
Sutter Roseville Medical Center
Neurologic music therapy (NMT): This donor-funded program is a therapeutic application of music to cognitive, sensory, and motor dysfunctions due to neurological disease. Not only does it provide our patients with comfort and creativity, it also improves their mental well-being and recovery.
Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital
Projecting microscope: This tool will be used for Tumor Board and oncology navigation educational purposes, allowing improved evaluation of patient pathology results and diagnosis, and therefore better treatment decisions and recommendations.
At Sutter Auburn Faith, a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, bereavement counselors and volunteers work together to provide vital hospice care. They focus on controlling pain, managing symptoms, offering emotional support and enabling patients to live out their lives with dignity and comfort.
Sutter Solano Medical Center
Infusion center chairs: When patients receive treatments, they sit for hours, often feeling cold and finding it difficult to sit throughout the day. The center’s new chairs have a variety of features to help patients feel more relaxed and comfortable during their time receiving treatments.
Upgrading Imaging Technology

New imaging equipment at Sutter Amador Hospital, Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, Sutter Tracy Community Hospital and Sutter Davis Hospital aids in the diagnosis and treatment of patients, providing physicians with real-time treatment guidance and patients with more accurate care. Additionally, treatments are less invasive, which helps improve patient comfort and safety.
