Side-Lying Position
Get started:
- First, position yourself and your baby lying down on your sides tummy-to-tummy.
- Bend your top leg and position with pillows under your upper knee.
- Place your fingers beneath your breast and lift upward, then pull your baby in close as he/she latches-on.
This is an especially good choice for breastfeeding when:
- You must be flat after a cesarean birth with spinal anesthesia.
- You're uncomfortable sitting up (episiotomy or hemorrhoid pain).
- You need help from someone else to get your baby latched-on.
- You're tired and want to rest.
