Identifying Disparities in Type 2 Diabetes Among Asian Americans: The Pan Asian Cohort Study (PACS)

Description

This proposal will provide a greater understanding of diabetes and its risk factors among Asian racial/ethnic minorities and would contribute to targeted research, public health, and clinical efforts throughout the U.S. Our specific aims are to compare screening rates and prevalence of pre-diabetes, diabetes, and diabetic complications across Asian subgroups and between Asian subgroups. We will also be looking at associations between Body Mass Index (BMI) and pre-diabetes, diabetes, and diabetic complications among the same populations to see if they vary by ethnic group. We will be following this cohort over time to determine incidence rates and predictors for pre-diabetes, diabetes, and diabetic complications.

Research Topics

  • Diabetes, Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Syndrome
  • Health Disparities
