Donors who support Sutter Health through Area of Greatest Impact play a critical role in providing funds for whatever needs are most important at any given time. This can include anything from enhancing a hospital lobby for a more pleasant patient experience, to funding life-saving equipment and services during an unexpected emergency such as COVID.

We are so grateful to those who donate towards the Area of Greatest Impact, and we are devoted to ensuring those funds are utilized to their fullest and most meaningful potential.

Here are just a few examples of the many incredible ways that donors improved healthcare in our community last year.

Patient Experience

In Sacramento, donor support allowed us to invest over $2 million to replace aging patient beds with brand new SMART beds that will significantly impact patients in every corner of the hospital. Generous donors also provided funding for our various music therapy and pet therapy programs in the Greater Sacramento area, which improve health and enhance quality of life for patients. Benefits of these programs include decreased perceptions of pain, distraction from uncomfortable procedures, improved ability to handle stressors, and reduction in depression.

Other notable investments include:

• Improvements to the Wellness Program and Meditation Garden at Sutter Davis Hospital
• Enhancements to the Emergency Services furniture, Meditation Room, Patient Family Sleep Chairs, and Rehabilitation Wheelchairs at Sutter Amador Hospital
• Urology Equipment (Ureteroscope Renoscope Kits) at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital

Safety and Security

Donor funds were also used to upgrade campus security at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento. Newly installed cameras improve the security team’s ability to investigate incidents, increase video retention and allow active surveillance by the Security Operations Center.  The upgrade also provides video and sound analytics that identify safety and security issues in real time, and allow immediate intervention, making the hospital campus safer for our staff, physicians, patients and visitors.

Dr. Bob Hartmann, a now-retired physician who had worked at Sutter Amador Hospital since 1992, personally attests to the impact that these donations have on our communities. That’s why he and his wife, Mel, decided to leave Sutter Health in their estate and designate the funds to the Area of Greatest Impact.
