The RPPR is typically due 45-60 days prior to end date of your budget year. Electronic notifications from eRA Commons are sent to the Principal Investigator only. The process for a progress report should begin no later than 20 business days prior to the due date of the report. If there are subcontracts on the NIH grant, you should start the process earlier to allow time to incorporate their data into the report.
The Grants Administrator (GCA) will contact the PI to schedule a meeting to review the requirements of the report. The GCA will review and prepare a checklist of required elements and due dates and discuss with the PI.
Some elements of the RPPR are simple checkboxes, some require detailed explanations or reports. Detailed instructions on how to complete the RPPR are found on the NIH RPPR Instruction Guide.
