Role Description

Volunteers act as a liaison between the paid staff and patients, informing them of any concerns patients may have and keep the patients updated as well. They keep the waiting room and dressing rooms clean and tidy. Volunteers also track patients who have been brought back for changing and make sure they are kept abreast of wait times, etc. Volunteers also stock dressing rooms with gowns. They do other errands including running mail to the mailroom, etc. If time allows and the volunteer is enthusiastic, observing some procedures within the department may be allowed. This is done at the discretion of staff.

Requirements and Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Friendly
  • Outgoing
  • Communication skills with a working knowledge of English
  • Customer service
  • Basic clerical skills including phone use, computer, copy machine,etc.
  • Remain focused on the patient experience
  • Able to sit/stand/walk
  • Must be 16 years or older
  • NOTE: Radiology placement occurs after a volunteer's first 90 days.

Training

  • Apply online
  • Attend a Virtual Information Meeting (90-minutes)
  • Complete appropriate health testing and drug test (in person with our Employee Health Department; no charge to applicant)
  • Pass a background check (completed online through an outside agency; no charge to applicant)
  • Interview Virtually with Volunteer Services staff (45-minutes)
  • Attend a Virtual orientation (2 hours)
  • Complete on-line training on your own computer on your own time (~7 hours)
  • Complete specific service area training (time is variable depending on the assignment)

Volunteering Shifts

Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 11:00 am, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
