Role Description

Transportation reception volunteers take phone requests for transport assistance and dispatch transportation volunteers as needed. These volunteers must have phone expertise and be able to communicate clearly, be well organized, and be able to interact professionally with staff members throughout the medical center. They instruct transportation volunteers about tasks to be done. Volunteers receive training to respond appropriately to various situations, some of which may be stressful.

Requirements and Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Friendly
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of English
  • Focus on internal customer service
  • Ability to use multi-line phone system
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time

Training

  • Apply online
  • Attend a Virtual Information Meeting (90-minutes)
  • Complete appropriate health testing and drug test (in person with our Employee Health Department; no charge to applicant)
  • Pass a background check (completed online through an outside agency; no charge to applicant)
  • Interview Virtually with Volunteer Services staff (45-minutes)
  • Attend a Virtual orientation (2 hours)
  • Complete on-line training on your own computer on your own time (~7 hours)
  • Complete specific service area training (time is variable depending on the assignment)

Volunteering Shifts

Burlingame: 3 hours, Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

San Mateo: 3 hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.
