Bleeding after Sex in Older Women

Medically Reviewed by

Question

Is it normal for a 60-year-old woman to have bleeding after sex?

Answer

It is not normal to have bleeding after sex at any age, but particularly for post menopausal women. Bleeding after sex can be an indication of damage to vaginal tissues, which are more fragile after menopause, but it can also be a warning sign of more serious conditions in the cervix or uterus, and should be evaluated. You should make an appointment with your gynecologist or primary care physician for evaluation ASAP.
