Question

My partner has begun to get up at night to urinate. He never did this before. He doesn't have symptoms of infection, like burning or pain. Should he be worried?

Answer

Nocturia is a definition of excessive urination at night which could indicate a possible enlarged prostate. It could also indicate a possible infection or the beginning of diabetes. But the most common cause of nocturia is enlarged prostate.

The best thing your partner can do is to see his primary care physician for evaluation and for possible prostate examination and a blood test. Good luck.
