Medication Interaction with Joint Supplement?

Medically Reviewed by

Question

Is it okay to take a joint pain supplement that contains glucosamine and scutellaria if I'm also taking prednisone?

Answer

In today's world we are learning more and more about interactions between medications, foods and supplements. It has been reported that grapefruit juice can interact with as many as 40 medications - some of which are commonly taken by Americans.

Prednisone is a powerful steroid medication and can have many effects. When taking it, you should always be carefully monitored by your physician. Often Prednisone is taken as a treatment for severe forms of arthritis. I am not aware of any serious interactions of Prednisone and the joint supplement you mention.

It is always wise to let your physician know of any vitamins or supplements that you are taking.
