Didactic Training
The California Psychology Internship Consortium didactic training program is designed to reinforce applied training, facilitate skill development, support peer interaction, and offer training in specific specialty areas.
Bi-Weekly Didactic Training
Interns attend twice monthly, day long didactic training workshops. Trainings are attended via webcast utilizing slides and webcam in order to engage all trainees throughout the consortium. During these trainings local speakers are recruited to share their knowledge and experiences on a variety of topics. Topics can include law and ethics, supervision, life after internship, suicide assessment, human sexuality, spousal abuse, substance abuse, cultural diversity, and specific interventions. Practical topics are chosen to help broaden the Intern’s exposure to therapeutic techniques and interventions. It also provides the Interns with an opportunity to interact with behavioral health professionals in the community. Several trainings will count towards pre-licensure requirements.
Intern Case Presentation
As the program year progresses, interns are expected to formally deliver case presentations as part of the didactic trainings. Each intern presents an assessment and/or clinical case for which he/she has been serving as the primary clinician. The intern is expected to demonstrate a solid working knowledge of the case, and to discuss the rationale for interventions based upon sound psychological principles. Each intern is also required to present a current journal article or other scholarly piece in conjunction with the presentation to demonstrate the scientific basis for his/her approach to the treatment issues.
Sutter Center for Psychiatry Trainings
Hour long trainings are provided twice monthly within the psychology team at Sutter Center for Psychiatry in addition to the didactic trainings provided by the consortium. Both interns and fellows are present for trainings that primarily focus on the work that is done within the hospital and local community. Trainings are provided by SCP staff and clinicians within the community. While trainings may adjust topics typically include a variety of interventions, specific testing measures, suicide assessment, brief therapy, group therapy, and consultation.
