Greetings from Modesto, California! We are thrilled that you are interested in our Internal Medicine Residency Program here at Memorial Medical Center, a proud member of Sutter Health. As the Program Director, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our vibrant and dynamic program, conveniently located in the heart of California’s Central Valley, where we are within 2 to 6 hours of 8 different geographies for fun and adventure.

Our Educational Philosophy We are dedicated to the highest standard of education, offering rigorous clinical training that prepares you for a fulfilling career in internal medicine. We aim to cultivate compassionate healers who balance medical expertise with patient-centered care and contribute to improving our communities. Our program is particularly passionate about training in empathic communication skills since it leads to better patient satisfaction and adherence.

Innovation and Technology We quickly adopt the latest advances in medical technology, such as the most current upgrades in EPIC (EMR) and Abridge (ambient listening AI). You will learn from and participate in our Sutter Health Innovation Center, providing unique opportunities to interface with innovative ideas on improving health.

Preliminary Medicine Curriculum Our one-year curriculum will give you a strong foundation of training, featuring:

• Two months of ICU: Gain critical care experience.
• Weekly ambulatory clinic: Develop outpatient care skills.
• Core rotations: Specialize in endocrinology, pulmonology, nephrology, and cardiology.

Graduates from our preliminary medicine program will find themselves well-versed in general medical care, ready to provide excellent care to their future patients.
