Message From our Program Director  

Dear Fellowship Candidate,

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship.

This one-year fellowship is designed for graduates of family medicine residencies who are passionate about providing comprehensive maternity care—including high-risk and surgical obstetrics. Our goal is to prepare fellows to practice confidently in a variety of clinical settings where skilled, full-spectrum obstetrical care is urgently needed.

At Sutter Medical Center, fellows benefit from hands-on, high-volume training in cesarean sections, operative vaginal deliveries, obstetric ultrasound, and postpartum care. Through close collaboration with both our OBGYN colleagues and maternal-fetal medicine specialists, fellows gain in-depth experience managing complex cases across the entire perinatal spectrum—from antepartum through postpartum.

Equally important, we offer a supportive, team-based environment where fellows work alongside both OBGYNs and surgically trained FMOB attendings in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This integration strengthens clinical judgment, procedural skills, and continuity of care—while reinforcing the values at the core of Family Medicine.

Our mission is to expand access to safe, high-quality obstetric care by training family physicians in advanced maternity services.
