About the Fellowship Program
The Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento Hospitalist Fellowship is a clinical-based program focused on adult hospital medicine, offering flexibility to tailor the experience to each fellow's individual needs. This urban-based program emphasizes competency, efficiency, and building confidence in the hospitalist setting.
Mentorship and Support
The program features a mentoring system with approximately 20 Hospitalist staff members available to help fellows discuss patient care plans. Fellows typically remain with the same mentor for 3 to 4 days at a time to foster continuity in learning and relationship-building. The program director is also readily available to address any clinical questions and provide additional support.
Additional Program Features
The fellowship is open to newly graduated family medicine physicians, though all applicants are welcome. Additional benefits include:
- Paid Time Off (PTO) and Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours
- Moonlighting opportunities for those interested
- Monthly meetings with the program director, focusing on clinical topics and treatment guidelines
- Funding for attendance at the Regional Society of Hospital Medicine Conference through UCSF, focusing on management of the hospitalized patient
- Teaching opportunities with the Family Medicine Residency Program and medical student rotations
This comprehensive structure ensures fellows receive the training, mentorship, and support needed to succeed in a hospitalist career while allowing for flexibility in the development of their clinical skills
