We would like to welcome you to explore this unique training opportunity in the community setting offered by the Sutter Roseville Medical Center (SRMC) Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program and thank you for taking the time to learn more about our program.

Sutter Roseville Medical Center is a teaching hospital with a number of residency and fellowship programs and is a rotation site for medical students from local medical schools.

The mission of this program is to train the next generation of high quality, compassionate physicians and with an emphasis on patient centered care which is a cornerstone of Hematology Oncology in the community setting.

By providing a broad training experience across the spectrum of both classical hematology and oncology, the aim of our program is to develop the highest quality, well rounded providers in hematology and oncology. Given SRMC’s position as a referral center for acute medical conditions across the urban, suburban and rural communities across the greater Sacramento area, as well as the strong administrative support for GME at SMRC, we are able to provide a clinically robust and supportive training environment with experienced, well-trained faculty. Our affiliated training site at Sutter Medical Center Sacramento provides specialty care in bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapy including CAR-T Cell therapy for hematologic malignancies.
Our program at SRMC is part of a Sutter Health Research Consortium that promotes research in basic science, clinical science and health science. The Sutter Institute for Medical Research (SIMR) has a track record of commitment to research, with robust opportunities for fellows to engage in clinical or basic science research including participation in NCI trials.

The fellowship program at SRMC is positioned to offer an individualized training approach to meet individual fellow needs and interests including mentorship and career guidance. Sutter Health is in a growth mode with the goal of expanding cancer services in the greater Sacramento region with opportunities for employment post training.  A fellow also interested in a leadership position or with aspirations for specialty training or an academic position post training would also be welcomed and fostered in this program.

The structure of training includes both inpatient rotation and outpatient clinics, each promoting a distinct set of skills as well as a didactic curriculum and multidisciplinary conference participation in tumor boards both site specific and general. The majority of the first year of fellowship training is provided in inpatient care where fellows develop skills in acute, complex management, teamwork, and procedures. The second and third years of training increasingly offer research and specialty rotations in outpatient clinics, fostering strengths in continuity, survivorship and preventive care, and efficient management of chronic conditions. Both settings are essential and complementary in Hematology Oncology training.

Our GME programs at Sutter Roseville emphasize the spirit of teamwork, wellness and comradery among faculty, residents, fellows and other healthcare professionals. We have dedicated and engaged hematology oncology faculty who are committed to faculty mentorship. Given that much of cancer care in the United States is delivered in community-based settings, fellows who train at SRMC can expect to be well positioned to provide high quality care to improve the health of the communities they serve. Thank you for your interest in our program. Please reach out if you would like more information or details about our program.

Warm Regards,
Kristie Bobolis, M.D.
