Dr. Nevarez entered the field of medicine to use knowledge and breakthroughs in science to improve health and quality of life. Dr. Nevarez has remained in the field because of the human connection, believing the medical field is as much about relationship as it is about science. Accordingly, rheumatology, a field of complex and chronic diseases, has been a natural fit, as it affords the reward of creating long-term relationships with patients. Building trust and expressing a genuine desire to understand patients' goals is a rewarding part of the daily experience. It is natural, then, that Dr. Nevarez sees themselves as a consultant, prepared to provide evidence-based advice that takes into account the unique perspective of each patient.
