Shuttle Service
CPMC provides complimentary transportation to and from the Van Ness Campus at 1101 Van Ness Ave for patients and their families staying at Hotel Kabuki and Holiday Inn Golden Gateway. This service is available Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM, excluding holidays. From the Van Ness Campus, you can transfer to shuttles that can take you to other hospital campuses. To schedule pickup, please call 415-600-4700.

B-Line: Civic Center BART to Van Ness Campus. Leaves every 20 minutes during commute hours, from 5:10 AM - 9:50 AM and 2:40 PM - 7:50 PM.
P-Line: Pacific Campus to Van Ness Campus. Leaves every 20 minutes from 4:55 AM - 1:15 AM.
PB-Line: Pacific Campus to Van Ness Campus to BART. Leaves every 30 minutes from 5:00 AM - 9:45 AM and 2:30 PM - 7:30 PM.
M-Line:
- Van Ness Campus to Davies Campus (with stops at Mission Bernal Campus at designated times)
- Davies Campus to Van Ness Campus: Leaves every 20 minutes: 8:00 AM - 4:20 PM

Hello, and welcome to Sutter Health CPMC.
We've been serving patients like you since 1852.
We made this video to help you understand
what to expect when you are admitted to our hospital.
We know that being in a hospital can be stressful.
Our hope is that this welcome video answers your questions
and puts you at ease.
Let me introduce you to the various hospital
staff that will be assisting you during your stay.
You will be seen regularly by your attending
physician or a hospitalist who'll
be directing your medical care.
You may also be seen by a physician specialist who
will offer expert advice to your physician or hospitalist.
You should know that CPMC is a teaching hospital,
so you may encounter residents, Fellows, and medical students
during your stay.
They practice under close supervision
of an attending physician.
Nurses will provide you with around the clock nursing care
by carrying out doctor's orders and offering you
comfort and support.
You may also be cared for by a patient care assistant who
is responsible for assisting with your bedside care,
such as bathing, taking your blood pressure, pulse,
and temperature under the direction of your nurse.
If needed, a case manager and social worker
will help prepare you for discharge
and address any discharge planning needs
during and after your hospital stay.
You may encounter a transporter from our transport department
who will take you to and from scheduled tests and procedures.
There are chaplains available to attend
to your spiritual and emotional needs as well as your loved
ones.
They care and support people of all religious affiliations
as well as those who follow no faith tradition.
Just ask your nurse to call for a chaplain.
Please let us know if English is not your preferred language
and interpreter services will be provided to you.
Sign language interpreters and communication assistance
for those with hearing impairment,
or visual impairments are available as well.
Additionally, you will be provided with patient education
that is easy to understand, and we will educate you
on the benefits and risks of any procedures that you may need.
We're here to help answer any questions that you may have.
So please don't hesitate to ask.
Now I will be guiding you through the setup of your room
and telling you what you can expect during your stay.
A member of the housekeeping staff
will clean your room daily to ensure your environment is
helpful to your healing.
Please inform a staff member if you
need any additional cleaning.
We encourage you to send all valuables home with a family
member or friends because items often get misplaced
in the hospital setting.
If you must keep valuables with you,
we suggest having our security department hold them
for you for safekeeping.
Please tell a nurse if you would like security
to hold onto your valuables.
To reach your nurse, use the red button on the nurse call
remote or the red button on your bedside rail.
You can call anytime you need assistance.
Also, a call button is located in the restroom
if you need assistance.
To control the lights in your room
either press the button on the side of your bed
or on the hand-held remote.
The TV can be turned on by using the same remote
and volume can be adjusted this way as well.
We can also provide a headset for you
and your roommate's convenience.
If you are more of a computer person,
wireless access is available for your personal computer.
The wireless network is SHGuestNet,
and there is no password.
The phone number where you can be reached
is posted in your room.
To make a call, dial nine then one, four, one, five,
then the local number.
For a long distance call, you need to use a calling card
or make the call collect.
While you're in the hospital, visiting hours
are from 11 AM to 8 PM, but can be flexible.
Semi-private rooms, however, require the consideration
of both you and your roommate.
To provide you and your neighbor with a restful environment,
please limit the number of visitors to two or three
at a time.
Sitting areas are always available in the hallways
as well as in designated family rooms.
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate overnight visitors
in semi-private rooms.
In your room, you will see a whiteboard
that lists your doctor, nurse, and plan of care.
The board is to help keep you informed about your stay
so if you do not see your information on the whiteboard
or do not understand what is written on it.
Please do not hesitate to ask your nurse.
Meals are prepared according to your doctor's orders.
If you want more personalized meals,
a room service menu is available.
You may order your own meals by dialing an extension
on your hospital phone.
Please call between 7:30 AM and 9:30 AM for breakfast.
Between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM for lunch
and between 4:30 PM and 7 PM for dinner.
At CPMC we take your medical safety very seriously.
during your stay various staff will
be checking your ID bracelet.
This happens before any medication
is given, before any laboratory test
or before you're transported to another area
of the medical center.
We're not checking this because we're not sure who you are,
but rather it's an important safety measure
to assure that the correct medication or test is being
given to the right patient.
Please let us know and speak up if your ID band is not checked.
And please never take off your band.
As part of our commitment to patient safety,
we will scan each of your medications
prior to administration to prevent
errors and possible drug or allergic reactions.
Our Call Don't Fall campaign is an important safety Initiative.
While in the hospital, you are at an increased risk
of falling.
To prevent possible falls and injuries,
you'll be given non-slip socks and a fall wristband if needed.
Additionally, to prevent falls, we
want to make sure the path to the bathroom is clear.
Please call a nurse if you feel dizzy
or if you need help getting in and out of the bed
or for going back and forth to the bathroom.
Managing your pain is very important to us
as we want to increase your comfort level,
help you heal faster, and increase your physical activity
and strength.
We typically use a scale from zero to 10.
Zero being no pain and 10 being the worst pain
imaginable in order to assess your pain.
Please make sure to tell us when you're feeling uncomfortable.
Your doctors will give you information and advise you
about treatment.
And you have the right to make your own health care decisions,
but we encourage you to plan for your medical care
if you become unable to speak for yourself by using
what is called an advanced health care directive.
If you don't have an advanced health care directive
or surrogate decision maker on file,
please discuss this with your doctor, nurse,
or social worker as it is an important tool
in taking an active role in your care.
Most patients don't realize that your discharge plans start
the moment you are admitted.
Your medical team will keep you informed
of your progress, how many days you will stay,
and your identified needs for a safe discharge.
Staff will educate you on your home care instructions,
discharge medications, and steps to call the doctor
in case of emergency.
Please schedule a visit with your primary care physician
after you are discharged to update them
on your hospital stay.
