Debbie E. Barish, N.P.

Debbie Barish, N.P. is a board-certified women's health nurse practitioner with a recently completed Doctorate in Nursing Practice. She has provided sexual and reproductive health care for thirty years. She considers it an honor and a privilege to meet people wherever they are in their reproductive life journeys and to support them in making choices that help them live the lives they want. She is committed to reducing stigma and shame surrounding abortion, sexually transmitted infections, and other sexual and reproductive health issues that are not often discussed openly. She strives to offer care that is efficient, informative, and as comfortable and pain‑free as possible. She specializes in complex implant and IUD procedures and was the first nurse practitioner in California to be legally trained to provide first‑trimester aspiration abortion.

She serves on the advisory board of TEACH, a nationally recognized program that trains family physicians and advanced practice clinicians in comprehensive abortion care. She is also volunteer clinical faculty at the UCSF School of Nursing and hosts art journaling sessions for healthcare providers.

Outside of her clinical work, she is an avid art journaler, creating journals that incorporate art and mixed media. She also makes and shares stickers and zines—small, self‑published booklets on a variety of topics. She enjoys cooking for family and friends, often inspired by New York Times Cooking recipes, and she spends time each year on an island in Maine.
