About Me

Philosophy of Care

Dr. Abdul Bari Sapi believes that at the heart of pediatric care lies the understanding that children are not simply small adults, but unique individuals with distinct physiological, emotional, and developmental needs. His philosophy begins with respect for the child as a whole person, regardless of age, background, or ability.

He emphasizes that pediatric care must be rooted in compassion and trust, recognizing the vulnerability of both the patient and their family. For Dr. Sapi, pediatrics is about creating a healing relationship rather than solely prescribing treatment. Because children often cannot fully articulate what is wrong, he prioritizes listening to families, observing carefully, and approaching each case with empathy.

Unlike many other medical fields, Dr. Sapi’s philosophy highlights a deep commitment to prevention—through vaccination, nutrition, education, and safety—valuing proactive care that fosters lifelong wellness rather than simply reacting to illness.

Personal Interests

Dr. Abdul Bari Sapi believes that living a balanced and fulfilling life comes from nurturing interests beyond the hospital walls and the white coat.

His hobbies include reading literature, history, and philosophy, as well as writing—particularly short narratives. He also finds renewal in nature, whether walking, jogging, cycling, or simply sitting in quiet reflection.

Having lived and worked in different countries, Dr. Sapi enjoys learning about diverse cultures, traditions, and languages. As a former professor of medicine in Afghanistan, he continues to find joy in engaging with students and young professionals—sharing stories, offering guidance, and listening with care.

In his personal life, Dr. Sapi enjoys fishing, helping his wife with household tasks, praying, listening to soft music, playing with his children, and spending time with his loved ones.

Professional Interests:

Dr. Abdul Bari Sapi believes that medicine is a universal language, though its expression can vary dramatically depending on geography, resources, and health systems.

Working as a doctor in both resource-limited and developed countries has given him a rare dual lens—one that has shaped his philosophy of care, his values, and his understanding of what it truly means to heal.

In Afghanistan, Dr. Sapi practiced medicine for years in resource-limited settings, where medicine often began with scarcity—of tools, specialists, medications, and sometimes even hope. He later completed his residency in pediatrics in the United States, gaining valuable experience working with a very diverse population.

Though no health system is perfect, his journey through two vastly different worlds of medicine has shown him that the true heart of healthcare is not technology or protocols, but compassion, presence, and purpose. Dr. Sapi believes that the mission of doctors transcends borders: they are witnesses to inequality and agents of change, no matter where they stand.
