Abdul M. Alim, M.D.

Dr. Abdul Mureed Alim, MD, FASAM, AAHIVS, believes that substance use disorders are a reality of our society—taking lives and placing a heavy burden on individuals, families, and our health care system. Rather than turning away, he believes we must face this challenge with empathy, treating patients as whole people. He is dedicated to training the next generation of providers to understand addiction as a biopsychosocial condition and to adopt a compassionate, multidisciplinary approach to care.

His professional interests center on caring for patients living with substance use disorders, with a focus on addiction medicine, mental health, HIV care, and harm reduction. He is deeply committed to addressing the social determinants of health and is passionate about expanding harm reduction education and overdose prevention. Dr. Alim is actively involved in graduate medical education, teaching addiction medicine to medical students and residents, and helping prepare the next generation of physicians to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care. He has a special interest in caring for hospitalized patients with substance use disorders, seeing this as a “golden time” to connect patients with treatment, recovery services, and long-term support. His work is guided by a commitment to increasing access to care for vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, refugees, and those living with complex medical and psychiatric conditions.

He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), the California Society of Addiction Medicine (CSAM), the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM), and the American College of Academic Addiction Medicine (ACAAM).

Outside of medicine, he enjoys classic Persian music, camping, hiking, and spending time with his family.
