Akanksha Sharma, M.D.

Dr Sharma is a triple board-certified neurologist, neuro-oncologist and palliative care specialist with a passion for helping her patients maximize quality AND quantity of life. She believes in providing person centered care, focusing not just on the disease but on the person living with the disease, and on working together as a team with the individual and their loved ones to come up with a personalized plan of care that best suits the situation. Dr Sharma specializes in all primary and secondary brain and spinal cord tumors including glioma, rare brain tumors such as chordoma or medulloblastoma, and on metastatic cancer. She also has a special focus on neurological complications of cancer and cancer treatment, including helping patients alleviate the burden of neurological toxicity from radiation therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Dr Sharma believes strongly that knowledge and education is empowering, especially when going through serious illness, and strives to give patients the time they need to understand their disease process.

Dr Sharma is a member of the Society of Neuro Oncology, where she serves on various committees, the American Academy of Neurology, the American Association of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. She serves as a clinical advisor for the American Brain Tumor Association and is a host committee member for the local brain tumor 5K. She volunteers her time as a mentor and advisor for ElevateMed, a non-profit focused on increasing diversity in medicine.

In her personal life, Dr Sharma enjoys spending time with her radiant little daughter and husband, and cuddling her sweet little chi-doodle dog, Kaju. She enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and crafting. She is also very passionate about dedicating her time to a number of social causes including increasing diversity and equity in medicine.
