About Me

Philosophy of Care

Dr. Amy Gilliam is a board-certified pediatric dermatologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of various skin conditions in children, including pigmented and vascular birthmarks (e.g., hemangiomas), atopic dermatitis/eczema, psoriasis, acne, autoimmune skin disorders, congenital skin lesions, genetic skin conditions, and bacterial and viral infections such as warts and molluscum contagiosum.

Dr. Gilliam served as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she was awarded the prestigious "Teacher of the Year" recognition by the UCSF Dermatology Residents in 2007. Although she transitioned from full-time academia in 2008 to join the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) as its first fellowship-trained pediatric dermatologist, she maintains a volunteer Assistant Professor role at UCSF, contributing to the education of medical students, residents, and fellows.

Dr. Gilliam’s approach to care is rooted in her belief in delivering personalized, compassionate, and academically rigorous medical treatment. After completing extensive training in Pediatrics, Dermatology, and Pediatric Dermatology, she joined UCSF’s faculty, an experience she credits with honing her expertise in the field of Pediatric Dermatology. In 2008, she transitioned to PAMF to prioritize work-life balance and foster deeper connections with her patients and their families.

Dr. Gilliam is dedicated to providing exceptional, “academic-level” care while addressing the emotional challenges families often face when dealing with pediatric skin conditions. She is committed to treating her patients with the same care and consideration she would want for her own family, consistently going above and beyond to ensure their well-being.

Community Activities

Dr. Gilliam is a member of several highly regarded professional organizations, including the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the San Francisco Dermatological Society. She is a dedicated educator and delivers lectures at international, national, and local levels.

At PAMF, Dr. Gilliam contributes to physician education through programs such as the "Launch Program" and "Project Sunshine," which are designed to enhance the dermatological knowledge of primary care providers. She also volunteers her time to provide hands-on teaching to UCSF medical students, residents, and fellows during pediatric dermatology clinics at UCSF.

Personal Interests

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Gilliam has called the Bay Area home for much of her adult life. She resides with her husband, son, and two dogs. Outside of her medical practice, she enjoys exercise, tennis, pickleball, playing the piano, traveling, cooking, and baking. She also treasures spending time with her sister, who lives locally, often enjoying walks with her dogs.
