Today’s patients are more educated, more informed and more inquisitive than ever. I believe that’s a positive trend, because patients should take ownership over their health, whether by asking tough questions, looking for second opinions, or making tough decisions. My job, then, is to listen, evaluate, educate and provide recommendations. With my fellowship training and experience, I can offer suggestions and present options, but the patients are the ones who ultimately have to live with the illness or condition, or undergo the treatment. I want my patients to feel in control of those decisions and comfortable with all risks and benefits. I chose the medical profession because I want to help people live the fullest, healthiest and most productive lives they can.
