About Me

Philosophy of Care

Dr. John F. Ryan is a fellowship trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Palo Alto Medical Foundation. He graduated with honors and distinction from Stanford University before earning his medical degree at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Subsequently, he completed his residency training in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

After completing his residency, Dr. Ryan completed an American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at the University of California, Irvine. His fellowship included extensive training under leading experts in Orange County and Southern California covering the full spectrum of aesthetic facial plastic surgery including rhinoplasty, deep plane facelifting, neck lifting, blepharoplasty surgery (upper and lower eyelid lifts), Asian eyelid surgery, brow lifting, lip lifting, and fat grafting. He has also received extensive training in non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures (including injectable fillers and neuromodulators and skin resurfacing with lasers and chemical peels). His reconstructive surgery training includes training in oculoplastic surgery, skin cancer reconstruction, facial trauma reconstruction, and laser therapy for vascular malformations in children.

Dr. Ryan’s passion for helping patients look and feel their best is what initially drove him to the field of facial plastic surgery. He strives to provide a comfortable and collaborative experience for every patient, combining personal attentive care with a meticulous approach to plastic surgery focused on creating a natural and balanced result, while achieving each individual’s unique aesthetic goals. In addition to facial plastic surgery, Dr. Ryan is trained in the full scope of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery. Dr. Ryan is an active member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. His advanced training makes him uniquely qualified to deliver excellent care to his patients.
