Philosophy of Care

Dr. Given is passionate about improving healthcare and its delivery. Her interest is cutaneous oncology, specifically, the interface of dermatology and data analytics.

Community Activities

Dr. Given served as the Resident Representative to the Board of Directors for the ASDS/ASDSA (2019-2021) and is a current member of the Alumni Council for the MBSD at the University of Chicago (2021-2024). She is a Contributing Editor to the peer-reviewed journal Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr. Given is an active member of AAD, ASDS, ACMS and the AMA. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics ranging from bubonic plague pathogenesis, the genetics of skin cancer, botox of the lower face and neck, complications of filler injections, cutaneous oncology and immunotherapy developments, and more.

Personal Interests

An FAA-licensed pilot, with commercial, multi engine and instrument ratings, an expert skier, avid golfer, and ballroom dancer, Dr. Given enjoys life in the fast lane. She is a Bay Area native, and attended Castilleja School. After 15 years away for training, she is thrilled to be back home, and enjoys sharing her love of this area and our wonderful communities with her two sons.

Katie Given, MD, PhD, MBA, FAAD, is double board certified in Dermatology and Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology (Mohs Surgery). Her training includes Internal Medicine internship at the University of Chicago Hospitals, Dermatology residency at Yale-New Haven Hospitals, where she served as Chief Resident in her final year, and Mohs Surgery and Cosmetic Fellowship (injectables, lasers) at UCSF. While in training, she was awarded a T32 NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Informatics, and worked with a Melanoma Tumor Board Registry, focusing on database quality and validation.
