Katrina B. Mitchell, M.D., IBCLC, FACS

Katrina B. Mitchell, MD, IBCLC, PMH-C is an internationally known breast surgeon, lactation consultant, and perinatal mental health provider. She is trained in oncoplastic breast surgery and hidden scar technique, and prioritizes excellent cosmetic, physical, and psychosocial outcomes in her patient her care. She has a special clinical and research interest in young women’s breast cancer and breast conserving approaches to surgery.

She has authored over 50 academic manuscripts and multiple book chapters on lactation and the intersection of breast cancer and breastfeeding.  She lectures in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia. She is the creator of the Physician Guide to Breastfeeding, an evidence-based website for breastfeeding families and the communities that support them. It can be found at physicianguidetobreastfeeding.org, pgtb.org, or katrinamitchell.org. She is the author of Go with the Flow:  The Definitive, No-Nonsense Physician Guide to Breastfeeding in Audible and print format with the Simon and Schuster publishing house.

• Dr. Mitchell is the founder of the Santa Barbara Women’s Health Coalition (2022–Present).
• Dr. Mitchell served as Medical Director for Welcome Every Baby – Family Connects from 2020 to 2023.

Dr. Mitchell enjoys camping at the beach with her son and rescue pups, reading, and writing.
