My philosophy of care revolves on balancing vigorous scientific research with the realities of patient lives. I encourage patients to make early healthy choices now to avoid larger problems at a later date. I also want patients to understand their own health issues well, so that they are better equipped to make informed decisions about their care. I was born to an Irish father and Salvadorian mother here in California. I spent a lot of time in Central America as a child -- thus, I learned a lot of Spanish, but very little Irish! I spent my high school and college years in the Bay Area, attending Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, and the University of San Francisco as a Presidential Scholar. I then pursued my Irish heritage and received my medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. I returned to the United States to complete my internship and residency training at the University of Washington in Spokane, Washington. While there, I was involved in studies on diabetic nephropathy, nutrition, and inpatient hospital medicine.

After completing my training, I continued with research and worked as a full-time hospitalist for two years prior to moving to the Bay Area to work in internal medicine at PAMF. I enjoy both hospital work and outpatient preventative care.
