Veena Jayaram-Chou, D.O.

I am a Bay Area native having grown up in the Tri-Valley area. I love this community and all it has to offer, including the wonderful diversity of cultures and the great weather. My husband and I have lived here for 10 years and have one young son who keeps us very busy.

I grew up in a family of physicians. My father is a neurologist who has been practicing in the Tri-Valley area for more than 30 years. I decided to become a primary care physician so that I could focus on all aspects of a patient's health. Being a family medicine physician allows me to treat a spectrum of illnesses and understand their interactions with each other. For medical school, I chose an osteopathic medical school in Kansas City because of its emphasis on primary care. Osteopathic medicine involves all of the benefits of modern medicine for patients, including prescription drugs, surgery, and the use of technology to diagnose diseases and injuries. However, it also involves hands-on diagnosis and treatment through a system of therapy known as osteopathic manipulative medicine. I was drawn to the fact that osteopathic medicine is designed to help each patient achieve a high level of wellness by focusing on health education, injury prevention and disease prevention.

After receiving my degree, I did my internship and residency at San Joaquin General Hospital an affiliate of the University of California, Davis Medical Center. After practicing in Livermore for more than five years, I decided to join the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF).

I wanted to join PAMF because I felt it would allow me to provide better care for my patients. I am strong believer in being able to follow my patients through every aspect of their care whether it comes from me or a specialist. Using an electronic health record, I am better able to track the care of my patients and follow-up with them on key aspects of their health.

Practice Philosophy

I believe in a comprehensive approach to care and in forming a partnership with you and your family so that we can jointly decide on the best course of treatment for any injuries or illnesses we may face together. I think it is important for you to understand your treatment options so that you have the information you need to make an educated decision about your care.

I also really enjoy listening to you, my patient, because that is the best way for me to understand exactly how you are feeling. My ability to communicate and interact with you allows me to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to meet your needs and to gain your trust. My particular areas of health interest include adolescent health and women's health with an emphasis on the elderly. I also enjoy discussing preventative care and alternative approaches to care.
