Vishal Hegde, M.D.

Vishal Hegde, MD, FAAOS, is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. He is a former Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is thrilled to bring his knowledge and experience to serve patients in the San Francisco Bay Area. His expertise is in minimally invasive hip and knee surgery, including anterior total hip replacement, partial and total knee replacement, complex hip and knee replacement and revision surgery after a failed previous joint replacement: all aimed at restoring mobility, reducing discomfort, and supporting a smooth, confident recovery.

Dr. Hegde strongly believes that providing the best possible care requires a personalized approach that empowers patients to make educated decisions about their treatment. Together, they can develop a customized treatment plan tailored to each patient’s unique lifestyle and goals. He is then able to put this plan into action, aided by the application of new technologies including robotics, smart implants that collect patient recovery data, and artificial intelligence. Each are carefully overseen and guided by his clinical judgement to ensure safe, effective, patient-centered care.

Dr. Hegde is committed to moving the field of joint replacement forward both through surgeon leadership and research. He has published many research articles and orthopaedic surgery textbook chapters and has been named a Top 5% of Hip & Knee Research All-Star by Avant-Garde Health. His research interests include developing innovative new techniques and technologies to improve outcomes after hip and knee replacement surgery.

He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and has been elected to serve on multiple committees in both organizations. He has also won numerous awards for his research from organizations including the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Musculoskeletal Infection Society, and the Western Orthopaedic Association.
