I practice lifestyle-oriented nutrition counseling, an integrative approach based on the premise that dietary habits need to be analyzed in the context of a person’s multiple life domains. It’s a cooperative process during which the counselor and the client work together to help the client make therapeutic dietary and lifestyle changes. As a facilitator of change, I see myself responsible for providing current science-based information, support, and enthusiasm. At the same time, the process is based on partnership, which requires open and sincere feedback from the client indicating their personal perspective, opinion, motivation, and feelings toward change. In the context of motivational interviewing, and appreciative inquiry the goal is for the client to develop the habit of making new, healthier choices.
