Low Sex Drive and Pain After Hysterectomy

Question:

I had a partial hysterectomy four months ago. My left ovary was damaged so it was removed, leaving only my right. Since the surgery I have had no sex drive. And when I do it's painful. What can I do?

Answer:

Women can live their whole lives with only one ovary and produce enough hormones, but it sounds like you now have become low in hormones and may be menopausal.

This might have nothing to do with your surgery and could be coincidental, or the surgery could have compromised some of the blood flow to your remaining ovary.

There are safe forms of vaginal estrogens to help when women have dry vaginal tissues causing painful sex. This pain is often the reason for a low libido too.

You should make an appointment to see your gynecologist and report these symptoms and have a complete exam.
