Novato Unified School District Partnership

Our partnership with Novato Unified School District funds specialty care, such as eye and dental appointments for students who do not have access to health insurance coverage for these services.

Integral to the NCH Community Benefits program, Novato Community Hospital provides support to the children of Novato in two crucial areas.

Primary and Middle School Treatment Nurses

During the academic school year, Novato Community Hospital provides four RNs “on loan” to the Novato Unified School District. The RNs personally assist NUSD diabetic primary and middle school students, as well as other children with special needs. They also attend field trips and assemblies, and meet with parents and teachers to ensure that back-up and emergency plans are in place.

Each nurse provides approximately 100 hours per month of direct care to up to 8 children, depending on the severity of their condition.

High School Athletic Training Program

At the onset of the 2015 academic school year, Novato Community Hospital took a stand against preventable athletic injuries by providing two full time Certified Athletic Trainers to San Marin and Novato High Schools.

Trainers conduct extremely detailed computer-based pre-injury concussion testing on student athletes to establish a brain-health baseline. Later, if a brain injury occurs, the severity of injury can be objectively measured to provide information vital to medical treatment.

Athletic trainers also attend all training sessions, assisting school coaches and providing training to avoid common bone, joint, and skeletal-muscular injuries.  Each high school has a full time certified athletic trainer who works with student athletes on a daily basis.

Because children are a community’s most valuable asset, and even as school budgets fluctuate or even shrink while healthcare costs continue to rise, Novato Community Hospital remains committed to ensuring the health of our community’s youth.
