Al V. Taira, MD is a board-certified radiation oncologist with Western Radiation Oncology and Palo Alto Medical Foundation Medical Group, where he has been caring for patients since 2010. He serves as Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at the Dorothy Schneider Cancer Center at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. Dr. Taira specializes in the treatment of prostate cancer and has extensive expertise in brachytherapy, external beam radiation therapy, and stereotactic radiosurgery.

Prior to pursuing medicine, Dr. Taira worked as a strategic management consultant with Bain & Company. He earned his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine, where he was selected as commencement speaker, completed an internal medicine internship at St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco, and finished his radiation oncology residency at the University of Washington.

Dr. Taira has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on prostate cancer treatment outcomes and served on the American College of Radiology Expert Panel, helping develop national guidelines for radiation therapy. He has also been a faculty speaker at national meetings of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS).
