Dr. Abate is a board‑certified medical oncologist and hematologist with more than three decades of clinical experience and a longstanding commitment to cancer research and patient care. He has been practicing at Sansum Clinic since 1988 and currently provides care at the Ridley‑Tree Cancer Center in Santa Barbara and Solvang, California. Dr. Abate completed his fellowship training in Hematology and Oncology through the UCLA/San Fernando Valley Program, with clinical rotations at UCLA, Cedars‑Sinai Medical Center, Sepulveda VA Hospital, and Olive View Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in Hematology at Stanford University Medical Center and an Internal Medicine residency and internship at Dartmouth‑Hitchcock Medical Center. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Connecticut Medical Center, where he also completed a master’s degree in Microbiology after receiving his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Providence College.

Board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology, Dr. Abate has participated in clinical research since 1989 and has served as a Principal Investigator with the TORI/UCLA Network. He has held numerous leadership roles, including Chief of the Oncology Division, President of the Department of Internal Medicine, and Chief of the Peer Review Committee at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. His professional service also includes participation on regional and advisory boards supporting oncology care and blood banking. Dr. Abate is widely respected for his clinical expertise, leadership, and dedication to advancing cancer treatment while providing compassionate, patient‑centered care.
