Powell O. Jose

Dr. Powell O. Jose, MD, FACC is a board-certified cardiologist with extensive experience in cardiovascular disease research, prevention, and clinical care. He currently serves as section chief of general cardiology for Sutter Health’s Heart and Vascular service line. He practices clinical cardiology with Sutter Medical Group in Sacramento, CA
Dr. Jose earned his Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from Yale University, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from the Yale University School of Medicine. During medical school he received a Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Fellowship, spending one year conducting cardiovascular outcomes research at Brigham & Women’s hospital in Boston. Dr. Jose completed his internal medicine residency at Stanford University and a cardiovascular disease fellowship at Northwestern University. Dr. Jose is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and serves on the California Chapter Board of Directors and the chapter’s Prevention Committee. He is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiology, and has clinical interest in advanced cardiovascular imaging.
Dr. Jose is a clinical investigator with the Sutter Health Center for Health Systems Research, and serves on the Advisory Committee for Recor Medical’s US GPS Post Approval Study. He has published many peer-reviewed publications on racial/ethnic differences in cardiovascular disease risk factors and mortality. His research focuses on cardiovascular health disparities, contributing to high impact journals such as Circulation, JACC, JAMA Cardiology, and BMJ. He has held investigator roles in major clinical trials including RADIANCE-HTN and ASPREE.
