
Vinayak Jha

Dr. Jha is a pulmonary and critical care physician at the San Francisco Critical Care Medical Group. After graduating from the University of Chicago, Dr. Jha completed a master’s degree in applied physiology at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, after which he attended the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science for medical school.
He completed his residency at Boston University School of Medicine in 2002. Subsequently, Dr. Jha completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2005.
Dr. Jha has served in multiple leadership roles, including as an associate program director of the CPMC Fellowship program, a medical director of the CPMC Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, a co-director of the CPMC Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program and a medical director of CPMC Respiratory Therapy.
As a sub-investigator, Dr. Jha is in phase two of research that analyzes the interaction between Oral Cysteamine (Novabiotics) for cystic fibrosis exacerbations. Dr. Jha is particularly interested in interstitial lung disease and tobacco cessation. He is a staunch anti-tobacco advocate and founded the organization TobaccofreeRx, which advocates for health-promoting facilities to end the sale of tobacco and tobacco products.
He has made numerous media appearances, during which he frequently educates the public about the dangers of tobacco and its sale. Before starting his career in medicine, Dr. Jha spent a year teaching science in New York public schools.
