Getting a New Heart

If your heart no longer works as it should due to extensive heart disease, your doctor may recommend a heart transplant or a ventricular assist device to help prolong your life. Our transplant program in Sacramento is a recognized center of excellence for heart transplant and blood and marrow transplant. In 1989, surgeons performed the area's first heart transplant with great success. Since then, expert cardiovascular surgeons have performed more than 200 heart transplants.

Our transplant program provides ongoing care for transplant patients, offering comprehensive pre- and post-transplant education as well as emotional support for you and your family. Care teams include seasoned transplant surgeons, specialty physicians, expert nursing staff, social workers and dietitians. The entire transplant team, from doctors and nursing coordinators to financial consultants and social workers, are at your disposal before, during and after the transplant.
