At California Pacific Medical Center, we’re committed to providing the highest quality cardiac care in San Francisco and reporting publicly on our performance. Our doctors, surgeons and specialists are dedicated to tracking and reporting data linked to our cardiac care and heart transplant programs.

Our efforts were rewarded in 2012 and again in 2014 when CPMC received the Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology Foundation. Our facility was one of only 168 hospitals nationwide in 2012 to be honored. The foundation's National Cardiovascular Data Registry ACTION Registry – Get With The Guidelines program honored CPMC with the award for successfully implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients.

Our Award Journey

The American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award recognizes that CPMC reached an ambitious goal in treating cardiac patients, adhering to high standards of care outlined by the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association.

ACTION Registry–GWTG is a partnership between the American College of Cardiology Foundation and the American Heart Association, with partnering support from the American College of Emergency Physicians, Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and the Society of Hospital Medicine. ACTION Registry-GWTG establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary artery disease.

To receive the award, CPMC consistently followed treatment guidelines outlined in the ACTION Registry–GWTG Premier Program for eight consecutive quarters, and met a performance standard of 90 percent for specific quality measures. These guidelines are used to help monitor medication safety and the overall quality of care provided to ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) and Non-ST- Elevation Myocardial Infarction patients (NSTEMI).

Tracking the Data

Many of the metrics used at CPMC are chosen by federal and state agencies and other organizations as measurements of high quality medical care for some of the most common and costly conditions treated by hospitals. They measure whether important, recommended medical treatments are given to achieve the best results for patients.

At CPMC, our doctors and cardiac care teams know that timely and proper intervention can dramatically improve heart attack survival rates. We report our heart attack and heart failure quality assurance data to the California Health Care Foundation and United States Department of Health and Human Services.
