Sutter Health facilities continue to score better than both the state and national averages for breastfeeding, episiotomy and C-section rates, and are on par with national rates for elective deliveries.

In all measures described on this graph, a lower number is more desired. The Sutter Health averages reported are as of August 2019. According to The Joint Commission, Annual Report in 2017, Sutter Health averaged 62% in patients feeding exclusively breast milk during the entire hospital stay. This is compared to the national average of 52.9%. According to The Joint Commission, Annual Report in 2017, Sutter Health averaged 3% in patients having an elective delivery if less than 39 weeks gestation. This is equal to the national average of 3%. According to The Leapfrog Group, Sutter Health an average 3% episiotomy rate. This is compared to the national average of 5%. According to First Time Mothers with Uncomplicated Deliveries, Sutter Health averaged 21.2% in NTSV C-Section Rates compared to the California average of 23.9%. Please note that Cesarean deliveries among Nulliparous Term Singleton Vertex (NTSV) births in Sutter facilities compared to statewide numbers from the California Maternal Data Center 1/2018 – 12/2018. Target is Health People 2020 target—revised in 2017.
