Sutter Walk-In Care Flu Shots

The best way to prevent getting the flu — also known as influenza — is to get an annual flu shot. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone over the age of 6 months get a flu shot every year.

Sutter Walk-In Care makes getting your flu shot as easy and comfortable as possible. Flu shots are given by appointment only. Anyone over 18 months of age and older can be seen at Sutter Walk-In Care, and those 6 months of age and older can get a flu vaccine.

What Is the Flu and How Long Does It Last?

  • The flu is a respiratory illness that can last about two weeks.
  • Flu symptoms are similar to common cold symptoms.
  • Complications from the flu can have serious consequences.
  • Every year in the U.S., more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications.

Who Is Most At Risk for Flu Complications?

Certain people are more at risk for developing complications when they have flu, including:

  • Children younger than 5 years old.
  • Adults 65 years old and older.
  • Pregnant women.
  • Residents of nursing home facilities and long-term care facilities.
  • People with other medical conditions, including asthma, chronic lung disease, heart disease, diabetes, kidney and liver disorders.

Why Should I Get a Flu Shot Every Year?

  • Every year the influenza virus changes, making it different from the previous year.
  • Getting a flu shot every year may not totally prevent the disease, but it can lessen its effects and minimize your chances of getting seriously ill and being hospitalized.
  • Your immunity from a flu shot also diminishes over time, so a flu shot every year will help keep you protected.

If you have one of our accepted insurance plans, your flu shot will be covered.
